The Legendary Hacienda Comes to WMC 08

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

We received an email in our in box this week, seems the most legendary club in the world is throwing a party at WMC this year. The Hacienda (also known as FAC51) was owned and operated by the late Tony Wilson (Factory Records), and Peter Hook - New Order / Joy Division

We cut and pasted some info from their site - www.FAC51WMC.com and we went through the process of “transmitting our info” and are eagerly awaiting to see what happens next.

The details are all a bit mysterious, but I am quite thrilled to know something will be going down. I will be there with bells on.

If you haven’t seen the movie “24 Hour Party People” I STRONGLY recommend you do. Sex, drugs, and Rock n Roll in full effect, and it if you’re not the loop as to why The Hacienda is so legendary, this will explain it all.

The Hacienda Story

via thehaciendamustbebuilt.co.uk

Originally conceived, founded and financed in 1980 by Factory Records and New Order through a deal steered by Rob Gretton, the manager of the by then disbanded Joy Division, The Haçienda first opened its doors on May 21st 1982 sporting a Factory Records catalogue number of Fac 51, a pioneering interior designed by architect Ben Kelly, graphics by Peter Saville and featured Bernard Manning as the opening night act.

Not surprising then that all of these forces combined turning The Haçienda into where is widely recognised as the birthplace of Acid House and responsible for shaping the face of UK club culture as it has since been known.

Through a chain of events that no one could have imagined, the ex-boat showroom on Whitworth Street, Manchester that became The Haçienda and the scene it gave birth to, went on to have one of the biggest impacts on youth culture since the punk movement and is one that is still reverberating today. Through the combination of legendary nights such as Hot, Nude, Flesh and Temperance Club with DJ’s Mike Pickering, Graeme Park, Jon da Silva, Tom Wainwright and Dave Haslam, clubbing had changed from simply a night out to an intense experience.

It was the heady mixture of new music, new ideas, cutting edge design and even new designer drugs that pushed the venue into overdrive long before the days of Ministry Of Sound, Cream, Renaissance, Gatecrasher and Godskitchen had even thought about opening their doors and inspired DJ’s from Sasha to The Chemical Brothers to Laurent Garnier. The Haçienda shone like a beacon rewriting the rulebook of what a clubbing experience was all about and inspired hundreds of thousands.

I have so many special memories from those days, the way the DJ’s would select the tunes especially for the club, I remember Sasha’s first set, the atmosphere was electric and he played the best set of his life, the music was perfect as was the crowd, when we left you just knew you’d been a spectator of something very special indeed’

- Peter Hook

MANCHESTER to MIAMI

We are very pleased to let you know that we are bringing The Hacienda across the Atlantic this March.

We hear that the “Party People” who attend the Winter Music Conference, are quite hedonistic, and last well beyond 24 hours!

We’ve written a few chapters on this ourselves over the years, and we look forward to writing yet another, with you, on this special night we are planning.

To begin our Manchester to Miami mission, we are going back to the roots of where this all began for many of us.

However, this time around, we don’t have a hot line to call, or a meeting point to stop off at. We chose the internet as our way of transmitting the details to you.

You can tune in to our signal, and begin the journey with us - simply send through your email contact, in the little box we’ve provided there below.

Yes, that’s right, under the video for “Blue Monday”. And shortly thereafter, our next transmission will arrive in your inbox.

We look forward to hearing from you, and seeing you very soon.

Kindly,

FAC51 - Family & Friends

Update - Spank Rock Cancellation

Feb. 18th 2008

UPDATE - SPANK ROCK CANCELLATION

Thanks again to all that came out on Feb. 1. We are still working on getting a date rescheduled with Spank Rock, who canceled that night due to illness. Its been tricky to get something lined up, as he’s just starting to feel back to his good old self again, and has been busy in the studio working on a new album.

REFUNDS: A few of you were disappointed he didn’t perform that night (trust us, we were too). And a few people requested refunds for the show, and as much as we wish we could offer them to you, Spank Rock was not the only performer on the line up this night, and and we had to not only compensate the other 8 artists that played that night, but also the people that put their time and energy into helping us organize the party. So, what we are going to offer, once we get a date rescheduled with Spank Rock, is a discounted ticket price to everyone on our mailing list. If you’re not already on our mailing list, you can sign up by clicking the link on the right side bar of this page. FYI - we don’t spam, or give your info to any one else, (we hate spam, as well as other processed meat products). However, if you don’t want to sign up for the mailing list, please keep checking for updates on the site.

Apologies if we’ve been a bit late sending you an update, we’ve been a bit behind, (we have a few other projects, jobs, that sort of thing ; ). And we’ve also been in a holding pattern, while working on a reschedule.

Thanks for being patient, and thanks to everyone for their continued support in our efforts to make you bounce!

There are a few really cool things on the horizon, we’ll holler soon!

More Info on the Spank Rock Cancellation

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Should anyone one who came out need further clarification on Spank Rock canceling his performance on Friday night at Studio B, here is what we posted on Brooklyn Vegan today.
Also - to clarify, Studio B was not involved in the booking, promotion, or ticketing for this event, and all inquires should be directed to tell.me@mas-forever.com

Thank you!

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2008/02/gza_playing_stu.html

On Thursday, the day before the show - Spank let us know he was feeling very ill, and wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to make it or not on Friday. He sounded terrible. We told him, listen - if you’re sick, you need to get better. He has a hectic schedule right now - working in the studio on an album, flying to L.A. at the end of this week to shoot a video, etc. The last thing a sick person needs to do is hang out in a packed night club, stress themselves even further, and get worse off than they already are. (Also for the record - Naeem has never canceled a show due to illness.)

After speaking to Naeem - I spoke to his manager, who advised me that counting on him to play, while he was ill, was taking a chance, and to be safe, I should cancel his performance. However, Naeem being the trooper that he is, said, no, Lori, I really want to to do this if I can, so please wait before making any kind of an announcement, and wait to hear from me tomorrow (Friday, the day of the show) and ill let you know how I feel.

At this point, having sold as many pre-sale tickets as we did, at a higher than normal cover - I wanted everyone coming out to the party to feel like they were getting what they expected, and if you think you guys are all up in the air and stressed about all of this, put yourself in our position, kind of a nail biter.

The budget to produce this party was high - and that is why the ticket price was what it was.
The line up was STACKED with top notch talent - in addition to having Spank Rock on the bill, we also had The Rapture, Busy P + So Me, JD Samson, Tippy, Dances With White Girls, Any Pry, and Eamon Harkin.

(And for the record - this was NOT a Spank Rock show, it was never billed as a Spank Rock show - it was billed as Jonathan K’s Bootay Shakin Blow Out.)

So, having the ability to reach out to GZA and add him to the bill, just in case Spank Rock couldn’t perform, was the call I made Thursday night at 10 pm. We could just left it as is, and had the party go on with no one taking over Naeem’s slot, but we didn’t feel right about that.

Studio B agreed to allow us to stay open another hour, so regardless of what happened, we were going to be able to accommodate both Spank And GZA playing.

And i’m kinda baffled (i know, “baffled” is very throw back toScooby Doo) that people are actually complaining, that Spank wasn’t there when a amazing talent - GZA “The Genius” was added to the line up. And by seeing the crowds reaction to his set, WOW. On the night, maybe 2 or 3 people said something about Spank having to cancel.

People get sick, if anyone here has a job, you’ve called in sick before. You are allowed sick days, and you make up what you missed.

Studio B does not suck, they were the venue we hosted the party in, putting blame on them, or anyone for that matter is kind of silly - cause “germs happen”.

When we definitively knew Spank was not playing, we posted it on the site, and also posted signs around the venue.

We are looking to reschedule a performance with Spank Rock in the future, and we’ve announced on our site the details on how we are handling that. Basically - when all gets sorted, those who purchased advance tickets, and those that are on the mailing list will get noticed before the public does about the show, and we will offer discounted tickets to them.

End of the day - people had a great time, that’s what matters. And we wish Naeem a speedy recovery.

www.mas-forever.com/blog is where you can do to stay updated if you like.

Thanks to all who came out and made it an incredible night!

The Bootay Shakin Blow Out Ain’t Nothin’ to Fuck With

We didn’t think the line up, featuring - Spank Rock w/Amanda Blank, The Rapture DJ’ing, Busy P, So Me, JD Samson, Tippy, Dances With White Girls, Andy Pry, and Eamon Harkin could get any better, well, we were wrong . . .

Enter GZA aka ‘The Genius” . . . founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan.

Yes, yes, ya’ll!

BOOTAY Shakin Ticket Update

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

WE SOLD OUT OF THE $15 ADVANCE DOOR TICKETS

Wowza folks! Seems like everyone is ready to party tomorrow night! We are super excited!!!

We sold out of our pre-sale tickets, we had 400 available for $12, but they went fast.
Since last night, we sold out of the 250 $15 door tickets we made avail to people on our mailing list.

We WERE going to stop selling advance tickets all together, and only make them available at the door, but we’ve received a lot of emails from all of you asking if we would release more for advance purchase. We could do that, but only if we release our $18 after 12am tickets.

The straight up truth - we’ve gots a lot of top notch talent playing and we gots a big phat budget to clear! We set aside a certain number of tickets at $12/$15/$18, to make sure we were able to pay all of our amazing artists and crew, as well as go out of our way to make this a smashing event!

So, we’ve made the $18 tix avail if you’re all up for that. We’re most likely going keep a few tickets avail for sale at the door, but we figure, gettin’ them in advance will make it easier for everyone come Friday night.

Not sure how the line is going to be tomorrow night, might be a little crazy, so we suggest arriving early!

TO BUY THE TICKETS: Sign up for the Mas Mailing list via the link on left side bar, and you’ll get an email directing you to the secret squirrel link, as well as some free music downloads!

Just Added to the BOOTAY SHAKIN Line Up!

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

In addition to Spank Rock, The Rapture, Busy P, So Me, JD Samson, Tippy, Dances With White Girls, Andy Pry, and Eamon Harkin, we’ve also got - Amanda Blank, Devlin & Darko, & Pase Rock joining the party!!!

Feb 1 Ticket Update - Important Info!

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Wowza folks! Seems like everyone is ready to party tomorrow night! We are super excited!!!
OK, so here’s the senario - we only have a few advance door tickets left at $15, we blew through all 200 since releasing them last night. We are going to release another 50 tickets at $15.

After that, we WERE going to stop selling advance tickets all together, and only make them available at the door, but we’ve received a lot of emails from all of you asking if we would release more for advance purchase. We could do that, but only if we release our $18 after 12am tickets.
